The Scheme of Kendriya Vidyalaya (Central School) was approved in November, 1962 by the Government of India on the recommendations of the Second Central Pay Commission. It recommends that Government should develop a scheme to provide uninterrupted education to the wards of transferable Central Government Employees. Consequently, Central School Organization was started as a unit of Ministry of Education (now Ministry of Human Resource Development) of the Government of India.Initially 20 Regimental Schools, then functioning at places having large concentration of defense personnel were taken over as Central Schools during the Academic Year- 1963-64.The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan was registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act (XXI Of 1860) on 15th December 1965. The primary aim of the Sangathan is to provide, establish, endow, maintain, control and manage the Central Schools (Kendriya Vidyalayas) located over India and abroad. The Government of India wholly finances the Sangathan. It runs approximately 1200 Kendriya Vidyalayas including three abroad, five Zonal Institutes of Education and Training and twenty five Regional Offices spread across the country.
Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2 Agartala is one of the Kendriya Vidyalayas run by the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), New Delhi, under the Project Mode (Higher Learning Institute). The Vidyalaya is fully financed by ONGC, Agartala, and was established in the academic session 1983–84.At present, the Vidyalaya is functioning from its permanent school building located within the ONGC Agartala campus, provided by the sponsoring authority, ONGC Agartala. The Vidyalaya falls under the Tripura West Lok Sabha Constituency.The Vidyalaya is equipped with modern educational and scientific facilities, including LCD projectors, audio-visual aids, and other essential infrastructure and technological resources. These facilities play an important role in creating an engaging, interactive, and joyful learning environment for students.The Vidyalaya has a sanctioned strength of 1,080 students, with two sections each in Classes I to X, along with one section each of Balvatika and Classes XI and XII. The Vidyalaya has a sanctioned strength of 45 teachers, who are trained, experienced, dedicated, and committed to meeting the educational needs of the modern generation.At present, the Vidyalaya has 1,047 students and 23 regular teachers. The school continues to strive towards providing quality education, fostering holistic development, and nurturing the academic, creative, technological, and social skills of its students.
